Who's Not Forgotten: FDR's Tribute To The Who (2004)

Who's Not Forgotten: FDR's Tribute To The Who
(2004, Face Down Records)

The first of two compilations featuring LIVE Guided By Voices covers of The Who songs!  This one features a live rendition of Baba O'Riley, a song played often during the Doug Gillard reign of the band. No secret that Pollard was a HUGE The Who fan, pulling off "Baba O'Riley" with the "hi-fi" version of GBV was a fanboy's dream come true.  Here it lives in official glory.

Baba O'Riley [Live]-  Yup, they did it? Is it moments like this when Pollard is truly living the rock n' roll dream? Yes, Guided by Voices documented covers of The Who's "Baba O'Riley." Like some of the classic rock covers better executed in the later '90s/early '00s of the band, competent guitar sage, Doug Gillard helps with the technical backbone, while the band riffs off instinct and passion. Gillard handles the opening synth frills on his guitar, followed by Nate Farley on the iconic arena rock strums. Perfectly executed, and true to the original, but one should expect nothing less here.
